On Wednesday, November 12, Haldane students and faculty came together to celebrate community, sports, and healthy competition at the annual Student vs. Faculty Volleyball Game and Ice Cream Social.
The night commenced with a vibrant ice cream party, which raised money for the Class of 2027. There, student volunteers from Haldane’s chapter of the National Honor Society distributed Neapolitan ice cream with a plethora of options for toppings. According to junior and volunteer Maisie Matthews, “the most popular toppings were definitely whipped cream and M&Ms. Overall, the ice cream stand was a hit with the younger kids!”
With full bellies, onlookers packed into the big gym to cheer on their teams. Every year, Haldane’s teachers and administrators band together to face a rowdy student body in the volleyball tournament. Many of the teachers had memorable, excellent performances, but a few stood out from the rest. Math teacher Kristen Peparo commented, “My favorite teacher performance was [High School Science Teacher] Mr. Posniack; he served several straight aces in a row and was named MVP of the night by the officiant, [Elementary School Principal] Ms. Jamin’s dad!”
Senior Vivian Eannacony, who plays middle blocker for Haldane’s Varsity Volleyball Team, reflected on the night: “It was very nice to see everyone work together. Having to perform in front of your peers can be an uncomfortable thing to do, but seeing my classmates have so much fun together in a care-free, supportive way was truly inspiring.”
However, the students’ vigor did not suffice when up against the faculty, who dominated the tournament. Yet winning is not the only goal of the Student vs. Faculty game. School events like these help to promote a supportive, animated, and tight-knit community. This was echoed by Peparo, who stated, “It is a wholesome gathering where students, faculty, and family can connect, laugh, play, and be merry!”
