It’s no surprise that Cold Spring’s Main Street is popular among Haldane students. After a long day of school, many rush down the hill to meet friends at Cold Spring Pizza or hang out by the waterfront’s gazebo. Main Street is a place of socialization for students, and it’s easy to find a variety of things to do. However, when one goes every single week, some stores become mundane, especially if you go to the same ones every time. That’s why it’s exciting when a new store opens up on Main Street–students get to check out and buy from new places.
Up In the Clouds, a slime store, is one of these new, unique businesses. It opened on Main Street on August 30, 2025, although it already had a location in Beacon. It’s popular for birthday parties, as customers can make their own slime, but they can also go to purchase slimes. “I love slime! The new store has so many options to choose from,” said freshman Aya Hull, “It’s such a fun thing to do with your friends, and the store is a great addition to Main Street!” When you walk in, you’re hit with a dream-like ambience with cloud decorations and unique charms and slime colors to pick from that really set it apart from other stores on Main Street.
The Sweet Tambourine is a candy store on Main Street that opened in September 2025. The store grabs shoppers’ attention with the colorful jars of bubble gum in the window. Inside, customers can pick from an array of bagged candies and chocolates, as well as gifts that go along with the candy. Freshman Emily McPherson said, “It’s so fun to shop there! The first time I went, I got my picture taken for their wall and my friends and I got free lollipops!”
It’s always exciting to see when a new store opens up on Main Street. Being such a small town with few places to shop locally, it’s great to see new doors open, purchase unusual things, and go to different places with friends.
