Entering the fall season, your closet adjusts to school as much as you do. Navigating trends and keeping up with current styles can pose a challenge for some. If you find yourself stressing or tearing your closet apart, don’t! The best thing to do is follow your own compass and experiment with what you have! Never feel obligated to follow “rules”– the whole point of your style is that it is yours. It can be fun to embrace trends and make them your own. Here are some rising trends to look out for in Autumn 2025:
The Canadian tuxedo, an outfit consisting of jeans and a jean jacket, has definitely spent time away from fame for a few decades and is finally reappearing, with a few tweaks. The more structured frame of dark, indigo denim has been the most common styling method. This can be universal, as it is easy to style more masculine or feminine.
An accessory many of our moms carried around is slowly integrating into younger people’s fashion. Scarves can be some of the most versatile accents to your outfit. A quality knit or silk scarf will always tie an outfit together. Because of their versatile nature, it’s easy to throw one on, either wrapped around your neck or maybe tied around the frame of your face as a more “pashmina” look.
Most fall seasons, especially our current one, reveal the true French inspiration behind our closets, without us even realizing. The repeated surge in stripes and polka dots every couple of years can be seen as a more simplistic or even rustic French countryside-inspired look. These Parisian-inspired patterns are associated with youthful energy, which is probably why I’m noticing more pieces similar to my baby clothes. The French style coincides with the emphasis on quality over quantity that is popular in fashion right now.
A piece of advice? With the weather growing colder, jeans become a wardrobe staple because of their versatility. Somehow, every fall I seem to outgrow my taste in jeans from the previous year. How am I able to not break my bank while still finding new pieces? Spending lots of time thrifting. Thrifting might seem intimidating to some people. Maybe you find discomfort in “not knowing what to look for.” That’s the beauty of thrifting; you never know what you will find. Once you start, $10 will seem expensive for a nice pair of jeans. Saving money and being more sustainable is always worth your investment of time.
The most valuable piece of advice I can offer when looking for jeans is to use your hands. Feel the materials and aim for finding real denim, which is notably thicker and higher-quality cotton compared to most of the surrounding blends of spandex. A real pair of jeans will last a lifetime and look immeasurably better compared to faux denim.
Remember, you can live by these tips, or take them with a grain of salt; the choice is yours! What really matters is to forget the rules and find your own ways to interpret trends in your fashion world.
