What is your favorite color?
“I’d say purple.”
Do you have any pets?
“The only pets that we’ve had are betta fish. We’ve been through three, so I think that we’re gonna put a rest on the fish department… [Their names were] Sisu, Jagan, and Pengu.”
What’s your favorite hobby outside of school?
“Probably skiing… Over the summer, just being outside. Not working is a favorite hobby of mine!”
When did you know you wanted to become a teacher?
“When I was in high school, I was not in any accelerated classes… I went to Arlington; I moved there as a freshman, so I didn’t really know a lot of people. But in math… I would be the one who other kids would ask [for help], and I would be able to explain it to them. [In college,] I started out with a major in Elementary Ed. But I really found that my passion was for math specifically and for high school… I wanted to be able to help kids understand math, which is usually something that people are adverse to.”
What have been some of your favorite moments teaching?
“The non-teaching times, when we’re all together doing senior picnics at the end of the year and celebrating everyone’s accomplishments. Haldane’s so unique in that way, coming from Arlington, where I was one of over 900… Honoring every single senior, whether they’re going into the workforce or Harvard, is something special.”
What motivates you to be so involved in clubs and activities at Haldane?
“That one’s easy. As a geometry teacher, I really only teach students as freshmen or sophomores, so finding a way to stay involved in the students’ lives throughout their four years is super important to me.”
What advice would you give to your students about growing up?
“Don’t grow up so fast! Coming from somebody [who got] married very young… There’s so much that I see peers my age experiencing… that I could not have done [because I had] a family.”
