On April 25, 2025, the Putnam County Youth Bureau hosted its annual Youth Forum, attracting over 100 high school students for a day of engaging and educational workshops. During the Forum, high school students from more than three regional schools attended various self-selected workshops facilitated by community professionals, including Life Skills 101, Saving for a Rainy Day, and the Career Paths Panel.
Haldane sophomore Lincoln Wayland said that his favorite activity was the Career Paths Panel, where students got the opportunity to explore future career professions with experts from their respective fields. Wayland thought that the professionals helped him and his peers better understand the logistics of different careers. Wayland said that “in doing so, [it] helped me decide what potential careers I will consider.” Hearing these detailed insights from professionals gave students a better view of what path they want to take later in life.
Freshman Charlie Robohm said she loved the engaging atmosphere that allowed students to participate openly without fear of judgment. “My favorite part was watching kids being attentive and applying themselves to class discussions,” Robohm stated.
Along with Haldane students, school Social Worker Scott Many had some comments to offer about the Youth Forum. Most, if not all, of the students enjoyed the event, Many noted. He stated, “About 80 percent of the activities participated in were relevant and interesting to them.”
The Putnam County Youth Forum left a lasting impression on students who attended the event. Regardless of whether it was learning about future careers, budgeting, or even self-defense, it’s evident that events like this play a crucial role in allowing students to find themselves and blossom into the people they are meant to become.
